Showrunning Your Web Series - WGC Panel

Posted on Saturday 30 March 2013

About a week back, I had the privilege of taking part in a panel discussion hosted by Jill Golick and the Writers Guild of Canada, "Showrunning Your Web Series". Jill is the mastermind behind one of my much loved fellow detective web series, Ruby Skye P.I.. Also taking part in the panel were two of my favourite web series creators out there, Scott Albert of Tights and Fights and Jason Leaver of Out With Dad.

The event took place at the impressive TIFF Bell Lightbox theatre, a great location, not just for a discussion, but also to screen episodes from our series. Seeing B.J. Fletcher: Private Eye on the big screen never gets old. When you're used to watching it via a YouTube size window, seeing your characters 10 feet tall is something to behold!

I was also excited to see the amount of people that came out to hear about the oft misunderstood world of web series production. It is absolutely an ever-expanding and growing industry and it was heartening to see the amount of people out there mulling over the idea of creating one of their own. I have to say, it was quite an informative night talking about our collective web series showrunning experiences, including funding, post production practices, social media integration, and the ever popular topic, the ipf.

Big thanks to Jill for asking me to be apart of this panel! It was an informative and fun evening. If you missed it, but are interested in what was said and discussed, the WGC has posted an audio podcast of the event here.

Oh hot? Oh Henry!

Posted on Thursday 7 March 2013

This past summer BCP worked with Ketchum PR to produce some videos for Oh Henry! Canada. This included heading out on one of the hottest days of the summer to interview people in Yonge and Dundas Square here in Toronto. Luckily there was a cooler for the chocolate bars which people were rewarded with for participating in out little survey. It's on wintery, cold, snowy days like today, that I yearn for the hot filming days of the summer! Here is one of the finished videos to give you an idea of the project.

Transmedia 101 - Web Series 101 Panel

Posted on Wednesday 22 August 2012

Last night I had the pleasure of participating in a screening and panel discussion for the lovely peeps of Transmedia 101. I had been invited to represent and discuss my web series, B.J. Fletcher: Private Eye.

Also along for the evening were some other very talented fellow webseriesans (is that a word? well it is now) including Elize Morgan (Pretty in Geek, The Gate), Jonathan Robbins (Clutch), Ash Catherwood (Microwave Porn), and Jay Ferguson (Guidestones). I am always a fan of seeing web series on a big screen! Following the screening of our shows was a panel discussion on how transmedia tactics are integrated with our web series and what transmedia practitioners can learn from web series’ best practices.

It was actually quite a cross section of different types of web series and approaches. An interesting evening indeed, and the audience peppered us with questions. Big thanks to the amazing Carrie Cutforth-Young and crew for inviting me to participate and for hosting such a great night!

I look forward to Transmedia 101's next meet-up!

Sizzle at The Rose

Posted on Sunday 17 June 2012

Again this year, Bee Charmer Productions had the privilege of working with The Rose Theatre Brampton on their 2012/2013 Season promo videos. One thing I enjoy most about this project is that I can incorporate my love of theatre into the fun we have in the BCP production studio. It looks like a very exciting season indeed! Check out this sizzle reel we did which incorporates most of the productions coming this year. Get your tickets now! ;-)

And onto the next...

Now that Fletcher has officially come to an end (bittersweet to say the least), I have found myself with many a new undertaking on the horizon. Several of these enterprises include working with arts organizations and artists. I have to admit, these are my favourite projects to work on.

A few months ago I had the absolute privilege of working with famed Canadian talent, Louise Pitre. This project included filming her one woman show, "La Vie En Rose", and compiling a demo of the show. Working with Ms Pitre was amazing. I have been a fan of hers for quite a long time. The result was a five minute docu-promo style video that showcased not only the musical highlights from the show, but also her gift for entertaining.

I'm looking forward to working with more artists and arts organizations in the future!

Full Steam Ahead on Fletcher Season 3!

Posted on Friday 28 October 2011

I am very happy to report that Season 3 of Fletcher is well underway in the production process. Over the past couple of months we have been filming in and around Toronto, and the footage is looking great! It's been wonderful having the cast and crew together again, and indeed, wicked awesome times have ensued.

The fundraising campaign via indiegogo was a great success for us at Fletcher (as our first two seasons were completely unfunded). The fans came through for us in a big way and I think they will be incredibly pleased with the results.

One more day of filming and principal photography will be wrapped. After that comes one of my favourite parts...editing all that hilarious footage into 5 new Fletcher episodes. This is one labour that I do indeed love!

Lock and load, friends!
